About Us

Welcome to Luanshya Technical and Business College (LTBC), a pioneer in technical and vocational education since 1958. Rooted in a legacy of excellence and innovation, LTBC has evolved from its humble beginnings as a miners’ training center to a dynamic institution shaping Zambia’s workforce. Our mission is to empower individuals with skills that drive industries and inspire entrepreneurial growth. Join us on our journey of transforming potential into success.

Our History

Luanshya Technical and Business College (LTBC) was established as a training institution in 1958 by Roan Select Trust (RST), a mining company that was operating in Luanshya.  It is situated on plot number 1381, Chipembele Road about one and half kilometers from the town centre. The College was initially intended to provide training to miners’ children. In 1969, when the Technical Education and Vocational Training (TEVT) Policy was passed the institute was converted to the Zambia Institute of Technology (ZIT). In 1972, the Zambian Government opened up Trades Training Institutions across the country to train craft men and women in various skills. It was designed to have a Trades Training Institute in every province. This was still in line with the objectives of the then TEVT policy. It was for this reason that ZIT on the Copperbelt was moved to Kitwe and the Institute was converted to a Trades Training Institute and was named Luanshya Trades Training Institute.

In 1996, the new Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship (TEVET) Policy was launched and in 1998, the Government passed the TEVET Act No 13 of 1998. This Act established the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) and provided for the creation of independent management boards for the training institutions administered by MSTVT of which Luanshya Trades Training Institute was one of them. Management Board members are appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education. Therefore in 2005, the Board changed the name of the institute from Luanshya Trades Training Institute to Luanshya Technical and Business College to reflect the objectives and mission of the College. The College aims at introducing more courses to meet the demands of industries.
